World Agroforestry works throughout the Global South with footprints in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Our activities span over 44 countries in six regions. Each office oversees, plans, coordinates and supports initiatives within their region, and maintains liaisons and partnerships with governments, development partners, learning institutions and civil society

Our headquarters are based in Nairobi, Kenya. This office provides leadership and manages the strategic direction and priorities of the organization. ICRAF HQ hosts a number of state-of-the-art laboratories which include: The African Orphan Crop Consortium (AOCC) Lab; Agroforestry Species Switchboard; Dendrochronology Lab; Geoscience Lab and Landscapes Portal; Living Soil Lab, Seed Genebank Lab and Soil-Plant Spectral Diagnostics Lab.
World Agroforestry in East and Central Asia (ECA) coordinates the development of mountain agroforestry systems and demonstrates large-scale agroforestry research and training at the Honghe Innovation Centre for Mountain Futures. Other key activities include major projects on using mushrooms and fungi for soil health, income and nutrition, agrarian shelterbelt systems in Central Asia, and using traditional ‘ecological calendars’ to plan agricultural activities in the face of climate change.

Where we work
In East and Southern Africa, World Agroforestry operates in 14 countries that rely immensely on agriculture, biodiversity and natural resources wealth as the basis for food production and socio-economic development. Our focus is therefore on the implementation of agroforestry research and development as one of the vehicles to achieve sustainable agriculture, environmental sustainability and green growth.

ICRAF in Latin America has been working towards improving livelihoods and the environment through more productive, diversified, integrated and intensified use of trees in agricultural landscapes for over 25 years. The region works in partnership with the government, rural producer organizations, non-governmental organizations, national agricultural research institutions, universities and other stakeholders in the scientific community.
Our multidisciplinary, international team works closely with public and private sector agricultural research and development entities in Brazil, Peru, Central America and the Caribbean.
The regional office is based in Lima, Peru.
ICRAF’s South Asia Regional Programme (SARP) was instrumental in supporting the emergence of the world’s first National Agroforestry Policy in India. The roll-out of this policy, and its adaptation and implementation in neighbouring countries remains a major focus in the region, demonstrating the importance of presence and context in the delivery of appropriate and relevant solutions and options.

ICRAF’s West and Central Africa (WCA) Regional Office works to improve food security and to address the highly unique environmental challenges in the area, particularly around arid and semi-arid lands in the Sahel and tropical regions in the Congo Basin. Key activities include scaling up of participatory tree domestication, promoting farmer-managed natural regeneration (FMNR), scaling up of agroforestry technologies through rural resource centres (RRCs), rehabilitation of tree crop landscapes and development of tree-based value chains.
