The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) joined forces in 2019, leveraging a combined 65 years’ experience in research on the role of forests and trees in solving critical global challenges.
- Chief of Partnerships
Cathy Watson is Chief of Partnerships for the Centre for International Forestry Research CIFOR and World Agroforestry ICRAF. She was Chief of Programme Development for World Agroforestry 2012-2020. Prior to that, she founded and ran two NGOs in Uganda -- Straight Talk Foundation and Mvule Trust. She was made a senior Ashoka fellow in 2006. She has a long history of journalism, working for The Guardian and BBC among others, which she continues today in blogs for World Agroforestry and other outlets. She is a graduate in biology from Princeton and holds a graduate certificate in agroforestry from the University of Missouri. She has worked for over 30 years in Africa. Her current role is across the Global South. She is committed to building public understanding of the role of trees in nutrition, poverty and disaster risk reduction, and stemming the climate crisis and biodiversity collapse.
